After a fairly long hiatus trying to put this expansion together, I'm on the cusp of being able to produce this. The first draft has come back from the printers and I'm ready to finalise the artwork / price it / get the thing printed. It was originally intended to be coupled to the board expansion which was included in the 2nd edition of 1860, and since then it's been languishing on the sidelines while I got 1862/EA published.

As the name implies, it's a expansion on the trains available in the game. The expansion consists of 48 unique train cards, representing the vast majority of trains which actually ran on the island. I've left off the last 6-7 as they would all be duplications of the highest train.

The 2, 3, and 4 trains are replaced with A, B, and C bands, and the trains in each band come in variations based on the original cards. So the eariest trains are 2+0s instead of 2+1s, but they cost less. Some are better than the norm and cost more. Some rust early, some late, and there are some slightly weird historical twists in there too, The later trains (D - H) operate in a slightly different way to the originals. The number of trains actually used in the game will broadly be the same as in the standard game, with one or two possible exceptions.

Depending on how players want to handle things, players can choose which train in the current band they buy from the bank, or the game can be played so the trains are available in a strict order, causing possible angst or joy.

This expansion won't be for everyone, even if you actually like 1860-IOW. But I have 50+ orders for it based on BGG feedback, and I thought I'd mention it here as I know there's a fair number of people here who don't frequent BGG who may also be interested.

The artwork will be consonant with the artwork in the 2nd edition. The cards will be small linen-finish plastic coated cards, about the same size as the original ones. The expansion should also include 6 small cubes. Depending on location it may be a lot cheaper to leave these out as I may be able to get the thing printed in the US and shipped direct. Watch this space to see if I can wangle this.

I haven't worked out the full printing cost, but I'm guessing it will be something like £5-10 including (local) shipping.

I will post again when I'm ready to roll, but in the meantime please let me know if you are likely to want a copy.

Many thanks,

Mike.
